In an unprecedented turn of events, TCRAS, the animal shelter located in Divide, has chosen its newest mayor through an unconventional election process. By using the election process and combining it with a fundraiser, the shelter raised a significant amount of money for its animals.

TCRAS, a prominent animal shelter serving the Divide area, orchestrated the mayoral election as a fundraiser and community outreach effort. The candidates? Not seasoned politicians, but rather, the animals of Teller County, with the support of many wonderful local businesses. With candidates ranging from cats to dogs to a bearded dragon and cow, each hopeful mayor boasted a unique charm and personality.

Campaigning took on a playful yet spirited tone as the community of Teller County and way beyond rallied behind their furry candidates. From catchy slogans to adorable photo ops, the candidates endeared themselves to the community, drawing attention to important animal welfare issues in the process. Social media excitedly buzzed as residents eagerly followed the candidates' campaign journeys.

The election ran for over two months, but as the election was ending, voting ramped up, and people carried the weight of civic duty and furry companionship. TCRAS ensured a fair and transparent process, with every vote contributing to the outcome. Excitement filled the air as supporters eagerly waited for the results, which wouldn't be announced until days after voting closed.

After the votes were tallied, one candidate emerged victorious, capturing the community's hearts with her irresistible charm. In a landslide victory, Fern, a 9-month-old Austrailian Shepherd dog, was crowned the new Mayor of Divide. The announcement was met with jubilation. Fern worked tirelessly to raise over 7,000 votes and close to $16,000 for the shelter. This money will help more animals in the community and support the programs TCRAS offers the community.

Fern’s mayoral tenure symbolizes more than just a quirky election outcome; it represents a community's commitment to supporting its animal companions and promoting responsible pet ownership. TCRAS services the Teller County community and its animals. While also helping animals from other states get a chance to be adopted and have better lives.

The 2024 Mayor of Divide election, orchestrated by TCRAS, has left an indelible mark on animal welfare, demonstrating the power of unity, compassion, and unconventional thinking. As Fern takes on her new role, residents eagerly anticipate its positive impact on the community and its furry inhabitants. In Divide, democracy has truly gone to the animals, paving the way for a brighter future.
